Philadelphia - Unique Examples
United States Mint Philadelphia silver ingots, as shown here on SILVERINGOTS.COM, can generally broken down into three classifications; 5 oz to 10 oz, 20 oz to 30 oz and 100+ oz. The fragment in the photograph above and below appears to have been salvaged from a larger, coffin style ingot. The interesting thing about this fragment is that the weight is stamped on the reverse and the font matches other United States Mint Philadelphia silver ingots. This indicates that the fragmentation as well as subsequent weight stamping all occurred at the Mint.
The next fragment was shaved from a coffin style ingot as well, but merely to salvage the hallmark. In the last photograph this small hallmark piece aligns exactly with the larger 15.20 oz example.
