Type I oval hallmark, no serial number with straight stem nines in 999.5 fineness silver ingots begin the transition to the final 5 oz class silver ingots produced in 1959.  From the Type I above to the Type II below, the oval hallmark transitions to the round dated hallmark.

Throughout all of the Mint Of The United States At San Francisco silver ingot types and series presented so far, the basic dimensions of the castings have remained the same. Over and under pours result in the variety of weights but the 1.25 inches by 2.00 inches (within hundredths) remain constant until now. The Type I oval hallmark, no serial number with straight stem nines in 999.5 fineness begins a new ingot size of 1.35 inches by 2.25 inches. The tolerance no longer remains within hundredths but drops to tenths in this series.

In both Type I and Type II series, examples with and without weight stampings can  be found.  When present, OZS varies between small and large capital letters. As seen in the last photograph, the hallmark is sometimes applied to what would normally be considered the reverse of the ingot.
